The Get Down event is a workshop that was created in Calgary featuring masters of hip hop intensively training dancers in their community for an entire week. For the FIRST TIME EVER, Vancouver will host this workshop featuring:

SUGAPOP, CALEAF, POPPING PETE, and GREG CAMBELLOCK JR.!!!!!

Each of these dancers has had a hand in the creation of their respective styles and has been pioneering the dance for 20-30 years all over the world. The depth of their knowledge is definitely something you don’t want to miss out on! This is an amazing opportunity for street dancers of all levels to learn from the very best. Beginner dancers can kick start their dance training by learning a week’s worth of core foundation from the original source, while advanced dancers can strive to reach that elusive next level and really take some significant steps in their dance. Whichever category you are in, you will greatly benefit from this workshop!

Vancouver in Montreal for BUST A MOVE

This was a GREAT trip for the four of us that went out to Bust a Move in Montreal!
Myself (Jaekwong), Abe (aka Smiles Davis), Locking Sun, and Ryo trekked out to the land of Frenchies!

We got their all on Friday. Thanks for Scramblelock taking us in. We stayed with the cats from Toronto (Surreal, Neo, Jerome, Ken, Popsikal Pete). 10 of us all in Marc's apartment - an interesting sight of men in their boxers 1 at a time walking out of the washrooms after showering, people sleeping on hardwood with jackets and no pillows, and 4 guys squished on one bed. GREAT times there.

First night we headed over to an underground loft place in the middle of an area filled with warehouses. This area was perfect for an underground preparty. Then this place flooded with dancers and eventually got too crowded and hot. We got down with the toronto guys and some of the montreal cats. At around 3 we headed home.

Next day was the big day! Most of us with barely any sleep, ate, got ready, and headed over to the Soda Club. This event had the BEST vibe I've ever felt. TONS of dancers and all very high level. Wacking and Hip hop to me had the best battle characters on stage. Finally for popping with the largest entry of almost 60 poppers and that wasnt even all teh poppers in the building. Me and abe both entered. As for locking, sun and ryo entered. I am happy to say that me and abe made it into top 16 past the prelims.

Sun and Ryo in the locking category made it to the finals against trek lock and scramble lock! DOPE ISHHH.. as for Abe and I (Jaekwong), we both got to battle. I battled Monstapop from Montreal and Abe battled another cat from Montreal as well! Unfortunately we both got cut after that and didn't reach quarter finals!

But all in all the event was a BIG learning experience. Hopefully I'll see you all in person and get to share a bit of it with you then! Congrats to Sun, Ryo, and Abe for killin it out there! Vancouveerrrr :D

Hey everyone! just got back from studying, thought i'd catch everyone up with some new stuff, so here we go!

New Progressive Classes & Workshops! ----------------------

Jessey has a 6 week Popping Progressive starting up this friday(the 13th!), 5-6pm at Drive Dance Centre. When asked for a comment, he grinned and said "I'ma drill 'em to DEATH!!". Later it was discovered he didn't even know it would be friday the 13th. hmph. Boogie Jam is back for 2009!

This sunday, Jan 18.. the first boogie jam of the year! Denis (aka lockin kuan. not kwan* ;) will be teaching the workshop, of course followed by 2 hours of practice time. Its open to everyone, all levels! Don't spend sunday practicing alone when u could be practicing with the entire community (w/ a live DJ), getting advice, and just having some fun!

FYI: The Boogie Jam is an event created by Jamieson & Teppi to bring dance professionals & people interested in dance, together. Improving the level and general knowledge of our dance community is important to helping it grow. We can do this by coming together, sharing our dance with one another, helping each other improve! Help yourself and the rest of the community by supporting this event.

The first funky weekend of 2009 was a amazing success! It's all thanks to you and your support, that we can create these wonderful events and workshops for all people to enjoy. 2009 will be packed with events such as Make it Funky, The Boogie Jam sessions, and more Funk Theory workshops! Get Ready!! You'll find all the info here first at our blog.

Funk at First Sight 3 brought in a full capacity house (230) and the Funk Theory workshop had a great turnout as well with 30+ people surviving the 2-day, nine-hour dance-a-thon classes we had going on! The true survivors though, are Jr. and Popula, who judged the event, and then taught 12 classes over the weekend. PHEW! Great work guys. Popula might teach ONE more class before he has to go, stay tuned! Also a big shout to all the out-of-towners that came out for the weekend. We really hope you had a great time (even during the snowstorm!:P)

Yes, you read it right. The first funk-only workshop series in Vancouver is here!!

What is it?
A workshop series with the goal of teaching you how to DANCE for yourself. Discovering how your own body moves naturally (to the funk!) is one of our key goals in these workshops. We will not only show you funk movement through drills & exercises but EXPLAIN to you where these movements came from, and ways to apply them to your own dance. By the end of this workshop, you will leave with a greater understanding of the funk culture and how the dance is done!

Freestyle Session Poppin' Class with Jaekwong (Groovy G's)

A poppin' class focused directly on your own dance. This class is directed on improving the freestyle part of this dance while reinforcing foundation and developing your style at the same time. This is not an instructional coreography class, but rather this class is to help you take the stepping stone from learning foundations of the dance (in your other classes) and apply it freestyling now.

Students will also be given the opportunity to sharpen their analytical side of the dance helping other students to grow. Please keep in mind this is a progressive class and commitment is based on 2 month periods

- Knowledge of poppin foundation and/or enrollment or attendance of a poppin' class is required. (Contact for details)

- 3-4 people per class

Hope everyone is practicin hard for the jam coming up on the 15th. Got a little hip hop mixtape here for you to get down to! What I like about these songs is that I actually like both dancing and just listening to this music too. also ive got a new custom up!!

I took a Cybertron Jetfire and painted it the G1 scheme. I hated the pea puke looking green on the toy, so it had to go. Did a couple base coats of grey, followed by several coats of drybrushing white on this thing. Then decided to panel it with dark grey.

I also hated the hands on this figure... they came out of his thrusters, and they were stiff fists. So i dremeled his fists, inserted sockets and stuck in two gundam hands. Now they have a bit of articulation! also, the Gun was added from another gundam figure i had lying around somewhere!

WELL THERE U GUYS GO!!!

Transformers Movie Ironhide Custom with G1 Influence

Alright,

My first transformers repaint to go up anywhere.

My first ever transformer repaint was the deluxe Brawl, but that didnt go to well. My third repaint of anything.

Here it is, the Movie Ironhide Voyager with G1 Color influence... hence the red
Also, I saw Ehko's BRILLIANT idea for the head. So I'd like to credit him for that. It's actually the backside of Ironhide's head.

I really tried to take my time with the coats. It REALLY tested my patience. But it was good, whenever i took a break from school work , I'd do a coat on something!

Still working on getting even coats, but thats a challenge! Please feedback are MORE THAN WELCOME!
